Positive thinking for kids begins with you – the parent.  From the very first moment that you hold your newborn baby in your arms, you become the center of that child’s world and often attain a kind of hero status in your child’s life until he/she begins to branch out and become more and more independent.  It is your responsibility to shape your child’s thinking and teach him/her the power of a positive attitude.

Children go through various stages of self doubt as they grow and mature.  They constantly compare themselves to their peers, and many times feel they fall short.  These opportunities are the perfect times for you to introduce the power of positive habits and thinking in your child’s life.  It is a vital part of helping your child become a positive and mature adult.

Positive thinking for kids can be extremely helpful in a world where we are constantly assaulted by the negative.  You can help your child develop a positive attitude, especially in situations where he lacks confidence.  For example, if your child is tempted to give up and says, “I can’t do this”, you can help him/her by saying something like, “Why don’t you try it again?  I am confident that you can do this.”  In this way, you release the power of positive parenting in your child’s life.

One of the most effective ways to show your child the the benefits of positive thinking is by modeling positive behavior yourself.  Children learn by example and are always watching you for cues concerning how they should behave and handle situations in life.  So the next time someone cuts you off in traffic, resist the urge to express your irritation by speaking harshly.
